Hidden City Philadelphia showcased the new Venice Island Performing Arts and Recreation Center project as a catalyst for social and civic transformation in Manayunk. BKP designed the new recreation and performance venue scheduled to open next year.
In “Viva Venice,” authors Vivienne Tang and Brad Maule describe the collaborative project by the Philadelphia Water Department and Department of Parks & Recreation to bring a recreation and performance venue – and major stormwater remediation upgrades – to Venice Island. BKP Principal Joseph Powell is quoted in the article.
The new Venice Island Performing Arts Center will be a multi-use community hub for stage productions, community meetings, and events indoors and out thanks to landscaped exterior plazas and an amphitheater.

BKP designed the new Penn Dental Medicine Endodontic Clinic, which opened January 7 to positive reviews from students and faculty.
“I am thrilled. This new clinic is a state-of-the-art environment that will greatly enhance our educational programs and clinical care resources,” says Dr. Syngcuk Kim, the Louis I. Grossman Professor of Endodontics, who has led the Department of Endodontics for nearly 21 years.

On 26 December 2012, the Ballon-borne Large-Aperture Sub-millimeter Telescope (BLAST) was launched into the stratosphere from Antarctica. The BLAST telescope was assembled in the University of Pennsylvania’s High Bay BLAST Research Laboratory, designed by BKP and completed in January 2012.
