BKP Associate Caitlin Daley, AIA, served as a judge in the AIA 2019 Institute Honor Awards for Interior Architecture. Judges recognized nine projects in the annual awards program, which celebrates the most innovative interior spaces. The five-member jury evaluated entries based on design achievement, including sense of place and purpose, ecology and environmental sustainability, and history.
BKP has collaborated with the University at Buffalo since 2014 on renovations for the School of Dentistry. The recently opened $11 million Pre-Clinical Simulation Center incorporates integrated technology and custom workstation clusters to support advanced teaching and learning.
Hear what students and staff have to say about their new facility:
The Pennsylvania State Police Headquarters in Philadelphia earned a Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Mid-Atlantic Chapter 2017 Project of the Year Award. The CMAA Project Achievement Awards honor those projects constructed in the Mid-Atlantic region that represent creativity and innovation through construction and program management. The Pa. State Police Headquarters earned recognition as a sustainable project.
One of Pennsylvania’s largest and most-respected women-owned professional construction management firms, JBC Associates, Inc., provided construction management on the project. BKP and JBC collaborated on the award application, describing how security features and sustainability were woven into the project’s design and construction, and how the new facility maximizes troop efficiency.
BKP Principal Joseph Powell, AIA, LEED AP, was on hand for the award presentation 06 June 2017. He’s pictured with Pa. State Police Representative Larry Gallagher and JBC Principal Janet Cunningham.
BKP completed another collaborative project with Bon Appetit Management Company at Johns Hopkins University. The LaB, a 3,200-sf late-night campus entertainment venue, opened on 03 February 2017. The playful take on the idea of a science lab includes the formatting of the venue’s name, which is based on the periodic table of the elements. The LaB supports the university’s mission for meaningful engagement and inclusive student gathering space. Students provided feedback throughout the design process and spoke highly of the new space at the opening:
“I feel like the new location and new setting bring the entire campus together,” said Junior Morris Mou.
BKP is proud to partner with the University at Buffalo on renovations for the School of Dentistry. Integrated technology and custom workstation clusters support advanced pedagogy while catering to the learning preferences and needs of millennial and Z-generation students. Phase I includes an $11 million renovation of the pre-clinical laboratory space in the basement of Squire Hall. That phase is scheduled for completion in 2017.
