Bulldog Tavern, Georgetown University
Washington, DC
“This project incorporates the traditions of Georgetown University with modern nuances while overlooking the Washington, D.C., landscape.” – Patrick Ledesma, Director, Healey Family Student Center
BKP teamed with Georgetown University and Bon Appétit Management Company over the summer and fall of 2014 to design and build a tavern in the Healey Family Student Center. BKP looked to historical and current cultural favorites of Georgetown students and the community for inspiration. The resulting design is a uniquely modern and iconic space. Traditional elements such as wood wainscot, shutters, and booths were included and adapted with modern detailing. Original campus chapel light fixtures were restored and included in the design. The wood bar features a live-edge Claro walnut slab top and a reclaimed wood facade highlighted by hidden LEDs. A massive keg wall creates a contemporary design feature while serving as a functional partition creating the semi-private Blue Room. The Blue Room decor serves as a living display of all things Georgetown.
Bulldog Tavern was featured in the January/February 2015 edition of The Bulletin, the journal of the Association of College Unions International. The project appears on page 17 of the 2015 Renovation & Construction Showcase.
