Venice Island Project Takes Shape

April 4, 2013

Hidden City Philadelphia showcased the new Venice Island Performing Arts and Recreation Center project as a catalyst for social and civic transformation in Manayunk. BKP designed the new recreation and performance venue scheduled to open next year.

In “Viva Venice,” authors Vivienne Tang and Brad Maule describe the collaborative project by the Philadelphia Water Department and Department of Parks & Recreation to bring a recreation and performance venue – and major stormwater remediation upgrades – to Venice Island. BKP Principal Joseph Powell is quoted in the article.

The new Venice Island Performing Arts Center will be a multi-use community hub for stage productions, community meetings, and events indoors and out thanks to landscaped exterior plazas and an amphitheater.

Hidden City Philadelphia is a web magazine celebrating the power of place and inspiring social action to make the city a better place to live, work, and play.
